Seriously, why would they do this? My all-time favorite cover of Beyonce' from Vanity Fair's 2005 Hip-Hop issue, has been pilfered and re-used six years later by Cosmopolitan UK for its April 2011 edition. This is also the cover that was controversial due to Vanity Fair being accused of digitally lightening the superstar's skin tone.

This smacks of laziness. Just take a new picture.

My vote, it's a "Beautiful Nightmare"...

I'm sure you all know that I am an avid Beyonce fan. She is without question the biggest, most-widely recognized female artist out right now. However, I find that like many long-running artists (read: Madonna, Michael, Mariah), she goes through phases in her career where she gets stuck on a certain look or gimmick. Lately, this gimmick seems to be leotards and minimalist dance videos. She has a fabulous figure, as showcased in her over-the-top Theirry Mugler tour costumes, but I'm just wondering how many more videos will include her (and the SAME 2 dancers) in leotards...We've had the ever-popular "Single Ladies," then "I'm a Diva," "Ego," and now "Sweet Dreams."

Because Beyonce is so fabulous, I always look forward to what new trend she brings to the table with each video/performance. With "Sweet Dreams" being my favorite song from the Sasha Fierce album, I really was hoping for something new and not more of the same thing. The leotard trend with Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Kate Moss, and even Whitney Houston shouting out from the bandwagon is quickly playing out. It's still a great video, but I'm hoping that somehow, someone runs off with her trunk full of leotards so that we can have some new looks in the next video. View the video and judge for yourselves:

Happy Anniversary to Jay-Z and Beyonce. They've made it through a whole year of marriage. That's no small feat for a Hollywood couple, I suppose. Keep up the great work you guys. ;-p

Beyonce's "I Am..." World Tour Underway

Beyonce never does anything half-assed (no pun intended, lol). Her new "I Am..." tour is underway and she has hit the ground running, beginning in Vancouver, Canada. Below are some shots from her tour promotional video.

The next leg of her world tour will be in Europe, beginning April 26th. She will be there in various countries until the end of May. She is scheduled to perform at the 15th annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans in the beginning of July and is expected to begin the American portion of her tour thereafter. I sure hope tickets are cheaper than her last tour.

Thierry Mugler to Design Beyonce's Tour Costumes

Thierry Mugler has designed the costumes for Beyonce's "I Am..." world tour this year. Mugler's designs are known for being over-the-top and often very "Superhero Meets Sci-fi Villain", with plenty of shoulder padding, cinched waists, and dominatrix overtones (like the ones pictured at left).

Wikipedia reports that Mugler "has signed on to create a 58-piece wardrobe for Knowles, her dancers and band for the world tour. However, Knowles' own clothing lines House of Dereon and Dereon will also contribute to the wardrobe." Now you all knew Miss Tina (Beyonce's Mom) wasn't going to get pushed out of the design chair that easily! Wikipedia continues, "Mugler's input will extend to the role of 'creative advisor', as he will contribute to designing the entire show, from lighting to choreography, directing three of the portions of the production, 'Dangerously in Love', 'Ave Maria' and the show's finale." So basically, I'll keep it simple.

Marissa Tomei, Natalie Portman, Taraji P. Henson, and Eva Longoria, stunning!
Miley Cyrus, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Beyonce...what the hell?

Ok, I do have to elaborate just a bit.
Marissa's Versace dress, with the very-popular-for-the-season geometric design, was just a fabulous, flowy miracle. Natalie's bright pink Rodarte gown was perfection. The color, the fit, everything was RIGHT. Eva gets my applause simply for taking a risk and pulling it off so beautifully. The tux was androgynous and still unbelievably sexy...and speaking of sexy in a tux...can we say 'Zac Efron'?

Everyone made a big fuss over Angelina, but it just seemed unfounded to me. Yes, the earrings were awesome...but that was about it. I found the dress and hair left me as bored as she looked.
Now the ugly part...Miley apparently wore her grandmother's dress, Sarah Jessica wins for Worst Hair, and Beyonce leaves me speechless. Now I am a HUGE Bey fan, but the pattern, the train, it was all too much, why?? I believe if she just cut the dress off at right about the knee and made it a cocktail dress, it would have passed beautifully. But this nightmare looked like a mermaid clothed in a drapery.
I would be glad to help these ladies with their selections for the next awards shows...call me girls!
