Taylor Momsen is 17. Yet, anyone unfamiliar with her would be hard-pressed to find evidence thereof on her new cover for Revolver magazine. Clad in lingerie and stripper heels, toting 3 firearms, and sporting waist-length hair extensions and a couple pounds of make-up, she is anything but age-appropriate. The cover has the Parents Television Council (PTC) in an uproar and the media discussing whether posing in this way is irresponsible of her.
My question is...does she have to be photographically responsible? Says who? Honestly, parents that are concerned with the impressionability of their children most likely won't allow them to listen to music from her band, The Pretty Reckless, which is, among other things, delightfully sordid. On the flip side, I doubt the die-hard fans of Gossip Girl (me included) will start toting guns after viewing this photo. No one is going to go out and play with guns simply because they want to "be like Taylor" because no one really believes that's who she is.
Sex and guns have always been "cool" for rock stars. And since that's clearly what she longs to be, her photo seems more of a reach for a tougher image and some publicity than something that will mislead today's youth.

Dreamlight: New Video- Drake "Find Your Love"
There has been much criticism of Drake's videos in the past. I'm sure this one will be no different. However, I, for one, love it.
The song, as with most Kanye productions, is great. I'm definitely a fan of Drake's brand of melodious hip-hop. I can appreciate his push to always keep things creative and new. He's telling a story with a "to be continued..." at the end...albeit one that is sure to have a predictable twist. Guess we'll have to wait for the "sequel."
Check it out and leave your feedback.

Random Rant: Who does that???
Lately, I have been noticing a trend for guys to just say the most retarded things to women when approaching them, presumably in hopes of making a connection. Guys, this may seem like common sense, but it's generally NOT acceptable to begin a conversation with a woman by insulting her.
One day, I happened to have this happen to me twice within the span of about 10 minutes. Which makes me wonder if it happens to other people too. Here's one example of what I mean.
One night, I happened to get off from my evening job a little earlier than usual and decided to go check out one of my friends who was having a birthday celebration at one of the local hotspots. I was trying to locate them in the crowd so I walked around searching a bit. I decide to try the top level and look down over the balcony for a better view. I walk up next to a guy standing by the railing. It appears he is working up the nerve to say something.
Sure enough, a minute later he says, "Hey what's up?"
I say, "Hello."
He continues, "Hey um, you work a bunch of jobs or something?"
Thinking that he is particularly intuitive, I respond, "Well, yes. I work 2 jobs...why do you ask?"
He responds by pointing to his eyes and drawing circles under them with his fingers saying, "Well you look really tired, right in this area." (still pointing...)
I stand there for a minute, slightly offended, but more annoyed. I wonder, when he stood there and thought up that romantic little comment, what did he expect my response to be? "Yea, you know you're right, do you have some eye cream??"...seriously. Even if it were true that I was looking particularly worn out, who points that out as an ice-breaker?
All I can manage to say in response is, "Wow."
Then, to my utter astonishment, he follows up with, "Yea so you wanna dance?"
There is, of course, only one thing I can say in return..."You know, I don't think so...I'm too tired."

Socks and Sandals - Faux Pas or So Hot?
This debate has been going for some time now. Is it really ok to wear socks with sandals? We've seen looks like this on the likes of Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, and (I believe) The Hills/The City. Burberry has had the look on their runways in 2008, 2009, and 2010. So have Marni, Sonia Rykiel, Givenchy, and Dolce & Gabana during various seasons.
The look, when done right, can be very cute and trendy. I think there are, however, a few key things to remember when trying it out:
- Stick with chunky sandals. Check out the ones below. Wedges are nice, and platform, or wooden heels are great too. Leave the dressy and skinny-strapped stillettos out of this.
- This is really a casual look, not to be paired with evening attire. Fun sundresses, skirts, or pleated shorts work well with this.
- It DOES matter which socks you choose. Unless you are a 2-year-old, a stripper, or a runway model, avoid the fold-over socks with the lace around them. Try a sheer sock in a tone matching the sandal, or a brightly colored one coordinating with your outfit.
Post your comments below and send pics of your versions as well!
