Mtv's House of Style Resurrected

I was so excited to hear that MTV is bringing back their House of Style show. The new host, Bar Rafaeli, this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model, is enthusiastic and, of course, easy on the eyes. They also have one of my favorite "It Girls" as a correspondent, Supermodel Chanel Iman. With interviews from designers, fashion magazine editors, and more, the show looks very promising. They even do a segment on Popstar Justin Timberlake's new clothing line William Rast. Timberlake manages to be amusingly melodramatic in the piece, but it is entertaining nonetheless.
I will say that this new version is glaringly geared towards the very new generation of young and stylish teens (they even do a segment on making your own friendship bracelets), but I do see room for growth and the possibility of a reborn hit.

Spears' Not-So-Subliminal Messaging

Well if there's one thing Britney Spears knows how to do, it's cause a controversy. I personally think her new song is rather clever. Loads of teeny boppers are listening to it with their parents none-the-wiser. Her new song "If You Seek Amy" is causing a stir not because of what its saying...but what it SOUNDS like its saying..."All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy."

Now in case you didn't catch that, say it with me 3 times fast: "If You Seek Amy"..."If You Seek Amy"..."Eff U Cee Kay Me"!!!
Tisk, Tisk Britney...It will be a hit ;-p

The Hills - Season 5

Season 5 of the Hills is coming.

Everyone pretends that the Hills is just a shallow superficial dramafest and well, it is. The thing is, though, that I love it. So does everyone else I know. Even the most macho of guys are like, "Yeah, dude Spencer is crazy!" And they know that because....they watch it!

Sorry Whitney, you're great, but the rest of your cast on the City bores me to tears...come on back to the Hills please!

This season promises the usual drama, tears, betrayal, and careless, money-is-no-object fun. Heidi and Spencer may finally break up for good, Lauren and Heidi might become friends again, Brody and Spencer could possibly be reuniting, Spencer could perhaps kick a guy's ass for snitching on him to Heidi, Audrina could potenitally hook up with Brody (????), and Stephanie will definitely continue to instigate things and then cry later when people call her out. Yeah, big prediction. You heard it here first. Season 5 premieres April 6th on MTV.

Dreamworthy Item of the Week: Earth Angel Swimwear

In January's issue of Maxim Magazine, Actress Dania Ramirez (of Heroes and Sopranos fame, above) modeled some fabulous swimwear by Earth Angel. These suits leave little to the imagination and are the arch-enemy of cheeseburgers everywhere. Nevertheless, I WANT ONE!

Earth Angel's website (http://www.earthangelswimwear.com) showcases several intricately-knitted, "one-of-a-kind" pieces ranging in price from $225 to $275. This seems a bit much for a few cris-crossed threads of yarn...but then they are "hand-made." Perhaps I'll hit up Ben Franklin Crafts and try knitting one myself. ;-p

GQ's 'Interview With a Vampire'

Robert Pattinson, every teen, tween, and young lady's favorite "vegetarian" vampire, will be on the cover of GQ Magazine's April issue. The feature article includes some very candid thoughts from the Twilight star. In it, he speaks on his relationships with Camilla Belle and Kristen Stewart, his unreleased indie movie role, his interest in tabloid gossip about himself, and his secret passion for...Joe Jonas??

Pick up the issue on newsstands March 17th, or check out the full story on GQ.com: http://men.style.com/gq/features/landing?id=content_8497

Lady GaGa is a Real Musician?

Until today, I really thought that Lady GaGa was just another Dance/Techno/Pop Star. I had no idea that she was actually a very talented musician. Not to mention the fact that she has been writing songs for other artists (including Britney Spears) for quite some time now.
This YouTube clip showcases her true abilities and changed my opinion about the Dance Diva. Check it out:

To Knock-Off or not to Knock-Off...?

Let's face it. It's a recession. There are, of course, many dire results of this economic downturn. One of which is that lately I've been seeing more and more (gasp!) knock-offs. Obviously, everyone cannot afford designer shoes and handbags ranging anywhere from $500 to $5000 or more. As a rule, however, I try to avoid knock-offs. If I appreciate the style and essence of some designer dud, then a cheap, poorly-made replica does nothing for me. Normally, I would prefer to get something more affordable that is along the same style inspiration than have a "fake." Why buy a 1991 Mercedes when you could get a 2009 Altima? At least, that's what my practical side says.

I once had a friend's mom bring me back a fake LV Speedy bag from her vacation to Malaysia. It was actually a pretty good replica except for some minor details (no rivets on bottom, no serial number inside). One day, she mentioned that she never saw me use it. So, I felt obligated to tote the thing around. The next day I gave in and toted the bag to work. It wasn't bad actually. It grew on me and became "cute." Later that same day, as I was on my way out to my car, I was walking next to a lady. I noticed her smug smirk but didn't think much of it. Yet, as we continued to walk, she seemed to become more amused. I was baffled until I looked down and saw her (obviously real) Louis Vuitton Speedy bag in hand; it looked much different than mine. Yes, she was a jerk for laughing at me, but I swore off of knock-offs that day.

Louis Vuitton Spicy Sandal Collection, s/s '09
Now, years later, I find myself contemplating stepping over to the dark side again. Coincidentally with the same brand. I mentioned in an earlier post my affection for the Spring 2009 RTW Louis Vuitton Collection. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Bebe is making a shoe that is unashamedly similar to the Louis Vuitton's embellished platform sandal. Bebe is famous for knocking off many things like most recently Herve Leger's bandage dresses, much to the delight of young party-going ladies across the country that hold Kim Kardashian as their style icon. This time, I think they've made another hit with the Katrin sandal. No, it's not python skin or whatever, but it looks pretty close to the LV sandal in three (3) different colors and at a fraction of the cost. And, with this economy, $149 is definitely more justifiable than over $2000!
